"We met Mark for lunch and left the restaurant with heads buzzing as it felt like we had lifted our sights and could see the wood from the trees, even after one hour.

We were not making any money at the time and Mark was recommended to us by a financial advisor who was impressed by him. We'd had the glory years when we'd developed some software and just kept selling it for £100,000 each time but we were struggling as we needed to develop a new system to keep up with our competitors.

We'd spent months trying to figure out how to develop a new system on a shoestring whilst still running the company. Our competitors were large international companies with huge budgets. We knew we were up to the challenge and we suspected that the new technology would sweep away our customer base which was using the same equipment we'd been supplying for 20 years.

Mark immediately spotted this, suggested we stop spending on development and just sell to our competitors' customers who were by then feeling unloved. Not only did we pick up valuable maintenance contracts, but we installed new systems (of our old technology) at better margins and without having to spend a further £ or $ on development.

It was a piece of genius thinking and we are now thriving again, thanks to Mark's help."

Following Mark Mills’s appointment to the Board of Tactical Solutions in June 2010 as Strategic Director, a review of the business and options for it was undertaken, culminating in the sale of the company to St Ives PLC 9th February 2011.

Commenting on the acquisition by St Ives PLC of Tactical Solutions UK Limited, Mark Mills, who had become Chairman, said “It’s a great achievement for the management team, Lorna Davidson, David Bryant and Geoffrey Faulkner to find a buyer of the quality and calibre of St Ives PLC, which is fully listed on the London Stock Exchange. Achieving £29m as the headline price was a great deal for both parties”

The Management team remains in place for an earn-out period and Tactical Solutions will operate as a subsidiary of St Ives PLC.

Commenting on Mark Mills’s role, Chief Executive, Lorna Davidson said “Mark Mills brought great clarity to the Board and our strategic thinking. We began to realise that our ten years of hard work could be fully rewarded and that we could partner with a quality, large PLC such as St Ives.
